Design Considerations for Improving the Page Speed of Your Website

A website represents the entire working of a business entity. It helps a businessman tell the world about his organization and acquire clients easily. So a website must be designed with all the important elements that attract visitors. One of the important factors that decide the success of the website is its page speed. The page speed of a website must always be high to hold the attention of visitors. Good page speed makes a site more usable, improves communication with customers and increases the conversion rate.

Here are some useful tips to improve the page speed of your website.

Make the content brief

The content of a website is very important as it draws up a picture of the activities of the business. Use consistent font sizes and font types throughout the webpage to maintain uniformity. Ensure that the font you use is compatible with all types of browsers. Do not try to squeeze in all the content into one long page as it may take time to load. Moreover, it will look dreary and turn off visitors. To stream the delivery of content to visitors adopt the CDN (Content Delivery Network). This network helps visitors view the entire content of the website with much less loading time.

Use CSS sprites for images

Most websites contain plenty of images. It isn't possible to avoid using them as they play a major role in representing the working of the business. At times these images become a great hindrance as they take time to load. Using CSS sprites is one of the easy ways to include a large number of images into a website. This technique compresses all the images into a single image after carrying out the relevant process. It also simplifies the process of changing colors and themes in the image. You can just change the color or the theme of one image and it gets applied to all the other images. To have an appealing website, use image editors instead of HTML to resize the images. One of the most essential elements is the file name of the image; use apt file names with suitable extensions (JPG, GIF or PNG) for the images in the website.

Avoid Using Difficult Codes

There are many types of user-friendly languages like HTML5, CSS3 and much more. Avoid including Flash files as they create various inconveniences like issues in browser compatibility, long loading time, inability to view certain videos without plug-ins etc. Restrict the usage of nested tables as they cause bugs when downloaded.

Clear all unnecessary spaces

Unwanted spaces, tabs and improper webpage structure affect the page speed. When you use JavaScript, the white spaces on the page remain neglected and this decreases the page speed. You have to be careful while designing the website and clear the unwanted spaces in each and every line. The second important factor here is the structure of the webpage; give your site a proper structure that does not take much time to load.

Avoid too many elements

While aiming to provide an attractive website for your clients, you might be tempted to embed some add-ons, to give the site a unique look. At times these add-ons may not load easily, thus creating some encumbrances to visitors while viewing the website. It is best to avoid these extra elements to increase the page speed. Before presenting the website to the client, test the website in various browsers to avoid errors that may occur during the runtime.
